Why Add Acids to Your Skincare Routine

Why add acids to your skincare routine

Thanks to their potent formulas and unique properties, acids (including AHAs, BHA and PHAs) are an effective way to elevate your skincare ritual. Using the right acids for your skin type can help to tackle skin concerns and result in a brighter, smoother and more even-looking complexion. Read on to discover what AHAs, BHA and PHAs are, their unique attributes, and how to use them for optimal results.

What Do Acids In Skincare Do?

Acids for skin are excellent exfoliators, working to decongest pores and improve texture to leave skin feeling smooth and even. Acids also work to stimulate collagen production, helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and support plumper, more youthful-looking skin.

What Are The Different Kinds Of Acids In Skincare?

There are three main categories of acids for skin: AHA, BHA and PHA. Each possesses unique qualities with specific skin benefits.

What Is AHA?

Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) are naturally occurring chemical compounds often derived from organic sugars.  There are seven AHAs. However, only two are used frequently in skincare: glycolic acid (derived from sugar cane) and lactic acid (derived from milk).

Glycolic and lactic acid act as chemical exfoliants and dissolve the bonds between skin cells, helping to promote the skin’s natural renewal process. This helps to smooth the skin and reduce the appearance of pigmentation, improving overall texture and tone. AHAs also attract water molecules, helping to lock in moisture and reveal radiant, hydrated-feeling skin.

What Is PHA?

Although AHAs have many skincare benefits, they can be irritating by nature and increase sensitivity to sun damage. Those with more sensitive skin often find that poly hydroxy acids (PHAs) are more appropriate for their skin type.

Due to their larger molecule size, PHAs are gentler on the skin and are the only acid in skincare to not increase vulnerability to UV damage. They are still very effective exfoliants, promote hydration and have various anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

The gentler nature and extensive benefits of PHAs make them the perfect acid to incorporate into a sensitive skincare ritual.

What Is BHA?

It’s a common misconception that there are many beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) but there is only one: salicylic acid

Unlike AHAs and PHAs which are water-soluble, salicylic acid is oil-soluble, meaning that it can penetrate below the surface of the skin and unclog blemish-causing pores.

How To Add Acids To Your Skincare Ritual

From salicylic acid toner to glycolic acid peels, there are many ways to incorporate AHAs, PHAs and BHA into your skincare ritual. See below to discover Omorovicza’s innovative acid-based products and how to use them for smooth, radiant-looking skin.

Toner With AHA

A daily mild exfoliator

Suitable of oily, combination and normal skin types

Omorovicza’s Acid Solution is an innovative acid toner that helps to brighten, refine and clarify dull complexions. Salicylic acid helps to reduce pigmentation and even skin tone, while glycolic and lactic acid combine with caviar lime to gently exfoliate the skin and promote cell renewal. Skin is left looking smooth and glowing, and feeling hydrated and comforted.

How to use: Using either the fingertips or a cotton pad, apply the acid toner to the face and neck after cleansing. Leave to absorb before applying serum, moisturiser and SPF.

Acid Treatment

A weekly treatment to banish dull-looking skin

Suitable for oily, combination and normal skin types.

Omorovicza’s Acid Fix is an award-winning acid treatment that blends AHAs with salicylic acid to help exfoliate, resurface and plump lackluster skin, revealing a younger-looking complexion.

How to use: In the evening, apply a few drops to cleansed skin two to three times a week and follow with moisturiser. Make sure to use SPF the next morning. Slight tingling may occur, but this indicates that the product is working effectively. You may prefer to begin by using Acid Fix once weekly and increase use over time.

Acid Face Peel

Blue Diamond Resurfacing Peel

A brightening treatment for sensitive skin

Suitable for all skin types.

Gentle yet effective, the Blue Diamond Resurfacing Peel is a PHA peel designed to brighten and smooth dull, sensitive skin. Enriched with diamond peptides, its unique formula helps to prolong the life of skin cells and protect their DNA. It’s also formulated with lactobionic acid (a PHA) to provide gentle exfoliation, brightening the skin and stimulating cell turnover without causing irritation.

How to use: Apply generously to the face and neck after cleansing. Using circular motions, massage gently into the skin for two to three minutes, avoiding contact with the eyes and lips. Rinse thoroughly. Always use SPF after using an acid treatment.

Copper Peel

Suitable for oily, combination and normal skin types

The foaming, two-phase Copper Peel helps to brighten and smooth the skin, while minimizing the appearance of pores. Sodium bicarbonate and lactic acid refine and smooth, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, while copper gluconate regulates sebum production and detoxifies the skin.

How to use: Apply the paste to the face and neck, avoiding the eye and lip area. Then, apply the activator over the paste and massage the resulting white foam gently into the skin for two minutes using circular motions. Rinse thoroughly after use and follow with SPF.

Salicylic Acid Face Mask

Overnight BHA mask for an even skin tone

Suitable for all skin types

Enriched with salicylic acid and sand lily extract, Midnight Radiance Mask brightens the skin, leaving a radiant glow by sunrise. Salicylic acid gently exfoliates the skin, improving texture, while also encouraging cell renewal and improving the appearance of hyperpigmentation. Sand lily extract inhibits melanin production, reducing the size of dark spots while copper gluconate regulates sebum production for a clear brighter-looking complexion.

How to use: For best results, apply after cleansing and toning and leave on the skin overnight.
